Kjell 'Kjellen' Bigset

Kjell Bigset works for Fjord1 as a bus driver. He lives in Hovdebygda, a little town in the Ørsta fiord. Until here everything would be normal, the life of an ordinary citizen. But no, I'm talking about 'Kjellen' a character created by Thomas Ryste for the norwegian comedy show 'Klypa'. I find him very funny, in some ways reminds me to Richie Richard from the english serie 'Bottom', a histrionic character with the ease of moving from happiness to violence in question of seconds.

Here you can see a sketch from Klypa, it's in norwegian, so maybe you don't understand anything. For me it's a bit hard ( I understand about 70% ), I don't have a perfect knowledge of the language and I don't understand all , plus he talks in sunnmøring, one of the dozens of dialects that exist in Norway.

I tried to make my own version of the character, I used a retro-cartoon style, like Dexter or Powerpuff Girls. It isn't my style but if you think in animation terms, it's easier in this way.

I recorded two pieces of audio to make a little lipsync. All was done in Flash, using graphic symbols and tween animation.

Some days ago I discovered a fantastic blog called 'Cartoon Snap', made by Sherm Cohen, a storyboard artist an animation director. It's full of interesting and useful information such some tutorials like storyboarding, digital painting with ArtRage or Inking drawings in Illustrator.

I never inked in Illustrator, I tried for the first time while I was watching the videotutorial and... I liked it, I i need to continue improving the technique, but in general terms I'm glad with the obtained result.

Alf Prøysens barnesanger

Alf Prøysens Barnesanger (Alf Prøysen children's songs) are a group of 9 animated shortfilms made by the norwegian company Sandnes Media. They started in 1999 with ' Bolla Pinnsvin' (Bolla the hedgehog), and now, 12 years later, they collected all the films for a DVD release, 'Musevisa og åtte andre Prøysenklassikere'. The release of this DVD is the 9th of November, and you can buy it here.

Alf Prøysen (23 July 1914 - 23 November 1970), was a writer and musician from Norway. Prøysen was one of the most important cultural personalities in the second half of the twentieth century, and he made significant contributions to literature, music, TV and radio.

I haven't seen all the films, only 5, but I can say that are high quality films, some years have passed since the last time I saw a good animated product. the backgrounds, animation, etc. .... especially one film named 'Helene harefrøken'. For a moment I thought I was watching Disney animation, from the 'Nine old men' era.

The animation is ' digitally hand draw' they used TVPaint software. I add an extract about how they work. HERE you can read the complete article.

When I start out animating a scene, I start with some of my initial sketches. They're very rough, made with a thick brush in TVP. The background-artist has made some layout-ideas, maybe even sketched the whole thing in rough colours. So, the layout goes into TVP as a layer at the back. Then, all of the sketches are put on top of it, just to collect the ideas.

The blue pencil is my favourite sketch tool. I'll make it a bit bigger than just 2 px, and start roughing out my scene. The scene is then playable,- it's easy to play the blue sketches and get an idea. The little "flip" function works great,- you can flip the last drawings like you would with sheets of paper. The blue sketch can easily be removed later.

We're all drawing on Wacom Cintiqs. It's great to draw directly onto the screen. Also, the buttons at each side of the cintiq are incredibly valuable to the workflow. I have attached the most useful functions to the buttons: scroll, zoom, next instance, next frame, previous frames and instances and the "move" tool. That way, I never use the keyboard. I'm drawing with both hands on the table, like I would with my original drawing desk.

Today I made my first decent background with Illustrator. Since today I only used this program to vectorize scanned drawings. I used bezier curves and a pair of brushes to make the basic shapes and then i exported to Photoshop to add some details.

Halloween is upon us. It is on this fateful night that we find Beatrice, Molly and Mallory, the pop music group known as Angora Napkin, running behind schedule for their performance at the big Halloween bash.

Taking a short-cut on a dark, twisted mountain road, the girls cross paths with one of the wandering dead and offer him a lift to a secret underground party. It is there that they are introduced to a lonely, misunderstood zombie boy named Dennis who they unwittingly convince to eradicate life on Earth in order to keep the party of the undead going for all eternity!

Will Angora Napkin be able to right the horror they’ve unleashed upon humanity and still make the show on time, or will we all become worm food in the wake of the zombie apocalypse?

Angora Napkin is a project created by Nick Cross and Troy Little. The idea began in the late 90's but it didn't came to life until 2005, when Troy began to draw the first graphic novel. One year later, when Troy was in the middle of the production and managing his cartoonist life with his real life (he has wife and two daughters) Canada's network Teletoon said yes for an Angora Napkin pilot. He called Nick and they started to prepare the first pilot episode.

In 2010 Angora Napkin was nominated for an Eisner Award.

And now, in 2011, Troy is going to make the second AN graphic novel, in full colour, called ' Harvest of Revenge' . If you would like to help Troy in this adventure you can contribute with some bucks, or , maybe, you prefer to buy it. The novel has 152 pages and hard cover and only cost... 19,99 $ . A ridiculous price for a fantastic artwork.

Era el año 1999, por ese entonces yo tenia 21 años recién cumplidos. Durante esa época iba a una academia de dibujo, pero reconozco que perdía más el tiempo que otra cosa. Tenia un compañero que hacia unos meses que había entrado a trabajar en un estudio de animación de Barcelona, llamado Studio Cámara. A principios de verano otros dos compañeros y yo fuimos a probar suerte, no es que supiésemos animar ni nada, era solamente la ilusión de trabajar.

Recuerdo perfectamente como fue, me hicieron entrar en un despacho y hablé con Carles Prenafeta, le mostré unas pequeñas animaciones que había hecho y el, al ver que para animar un parpadeo había invertido 18 dibujos, salió corriendo y llamó a Sergi ( el Big Boss ). Volvieron a mirar mis dibujos y me preguntaron:

- ¿ De donde vienes ?
- Del Mascaró....
- Vale ! nohacefaltadecirnadamás !! ..... supongo que no sabes que es un squash & stretch, no?
- ehhh...no !
-....... mmmmm.....ven mañana por la mañana !!

Supongo que les dí un poco de pena, pero como vieron un brillo de ilusión en mis ojos y no les pregunté acerca de cuanto cobraría al mes ni por vacaciones, debieron ver algún tipo de potencial oculto...

Así pues, el dia siguiente fui para allá., y conocí a los demás integrantes del estudio, Sergi, Lluissa, Carles, Florenci y Meritxell, J.A. Noé, Bego ( superheroína de España ), Claudi, Ivan y Meri.

En esos meses estaban en plena producción de un episodio piloto de 'The artoons'. Se me acercó Carles con unas hojas con algo muuuuy bocetado y me dijo: Esto tiene de ser un coche, y esto un camión. toma ! y me da un álbum de fotos con coches de New York. Ese fue mí primer trabajo en un estudio de animación, dibujar coches. Días más tarde ya me enseñaron a intercalar y todo lo demás.

The Artoons

Trabajé en Studio Cámara durante un año, del verano de 1999 al verano del 2000. Trabajé como intercalador para bastantes series, de las que recuerdo: Captain Pugwash, Little grey rabbit y alguna otra más que no recuerdo, también realizamos los Lay-outs para la serie italiana Zepi y Zinia.

Mención especial merece la serie ' Jack et Marcel' aparte de ser divertida trabajar en ella, pude hacer mis pinitos animando algo. En concreto animé un par de moscas y un 'take' en primer plano.

Guardo grandes recuerdos de esa época, y todavía conservo amistades, en concreto de Florenci y Sergi con quien tuve el placer de volver a trabajar 8 años más tarde, ya fuera del mundo de la animación. Los demás se los llevó el viento y nunca más supe de ellos.

¿Como seria la vida sin internet? buscas y encuentras, en concreto el episodio de Jack & Marcel que he comentado. Moscas en el segundo 0:10 y 'take' en el 0:30. :)

Elleville Elfrid - Sunshine Katty

I'm currently working as a Flash animator in the production of Elleville Elfrid ( Sushine Katty for the rest of the world ), an animated tv serie for NRK, the norwegian national TV. Each episode is 7 minutes long and for children between 5 and 8 years.

The premiere of the first four episodes is the next week, during the Kristiansand Intertional Children's Film Festival, 3 - 7 May 2011.

I really like it. I made an improvised movement with and improvised background. But if you have a nice Bg and make a good camera planning... with the addition of a real 3D environment, you can make some fantastic scenes.

Sex og SingelSiv

Today is the premiere of the first episode of 'Sex og SingelSiv', a new animated series produced by Qvisten Animation, an animation studio in Oslo, who also produced, a couple of years ago, the series Fanthomas.

Every Friday we can see a new episode in the website of norwegian newspaper VG , particularly in its section VGTV. Even if you pay a small amount can see the following episodes before the rest of mortals.

The series is a parody of 'Sex and the City' and the Norwegian politician Siv Jensen, leader of the Norwegian Conservative Party, the Fremskrittspartiet.

The first episode is pretty good and i like the designs and animation. The distribution is only through the internet, only in the first eight hours the episode was viewed by 56,515 people, plus if you include the Facebook fanpage, the videos that anonymous people will upload to Youtube, etc ... will become a success, as Fanthomas in his day. And sooner or later the DVD.

Kaboing TV is here !!!

Tomorrow, March 11th, is the Premiere of Joe Murray's Kaboing TV. An online platform for animated entertainment and animators !!

Joe's words

We will premiere a new episode of “ Frog In A Suit” each Friday from March 11 to March 25 and then see where it goes from there. It will be a work in progress,, sort of like when Disneyland first opened and there were things breaking down and high heels getting stuck in newly laid asphalt,, but oh well.

I’m hoping that KaboingTV creates a platform for cartoon creators to take their cartoons directly to the people. It will take a lot of work, and additional funding from viewers. We will not be starting out with any funding from the outside, or from advertising or subscriptions. Since these cartoons were produced with the funding from “the people” ( Kickstarter backers) I feel it should be “out there ” for the people. But to make further episodes, I need a viewer to step up and drop some money in the hat. Take a moment and pledge for new cartoons, or to keep the site going. Tell your friends about it,, put links on your facebook page,.

It will up to us to make this happen.

I recently discovered a very interesting blog, it's called: Animasjon i skolen ( animation in schools ), it's in norwegian, but you can translate with Google translator.

The blog is written by Bente Assheim, a teacher with experience in animation. For over 10 years she's using animation as a teaching method for children, and makes courses for other teachers to do the same. She had also written books on how to educate children with animation, among others. She offers a variety of courses and seminars, for children and teachers, and customizes the courses depending the needs.

If you enter to her blog you can see a lot of animations made by her little students. She teach stop-motion animation: cut-out and plasticine.

Maybe some of these children have a great future in the animation world.

Sincerely, I find very interesting to motivate and enhance children's creativity in this way. Actually schools are indoctrination centers, where children are forced to memorize numerous data (mostly useless) and where creativity is despised and suppressed.

Masterclass

This week I'm finishing my first Joe Murray's online masterclass, it's called ' Crafting a cartoon'. It's not about how to animate characters and things, it's about how to develope and produce a project for Tv, web and shortfilm.

It has been a fantastic experience. I learned how to develope characters ( character hooks, protagonists-antagonists, chemistry, etc...), develope and planning locations, how to make a consistent scripts, gags.... Now, I need to make my final 'exam': I took one of the premises that I wrote and thumbnailed and make a final storyboard or animatic.

It was nice to meet Joe, a great professional. We exchanged points of view about scripts, characters, the animation world, the difference between american an european humor... I have a good impresion, although I knew, a cartoonist/animator never is a boring and a serious person. :)

These days i'm searching information and art to inspire me, I'm going to design the backgrounds and some stuff. I'm thinking to animate with Toon Boom Animate, I found some nice blogs with video-tutorials and information, and it can be nice to learn a new program. I downloaded a trial version of the program, but at this moment i'm not 100% sure.

Dream Worlds is a fantastic book, it's about production design for animation ( series and features ) , the author is Hans Bacher who worked nearly 20 years in Disney. It's published by Focal Press.

Dream Worlds es un libro fantástico, acerca el diseño de producción en animación ( películas y series ), el autor es Hans Bacher, trabajó cerce de 20 años en los estudios Disney. Ha sido publicado por Focal Press.

In this book you can enjoy a lot of pre-designs, concept art, visual development.... from the last Disney films and you can learn about camera rules, composition of a scene, value and color and more. It's really inspiring !! The book is full color and brilliant and satin paper.

The Pig Farmer - Nick Cross

Finally, after 10 months of production, Nick Cross released his latest film, The Pig Farmer.

What can I say ? nothing bad.... it's a fantastic film ! Elaborated and colourful backgrounds, good animation and some nice camera effects.

I started to know about Nick Cross some years ago.... Always I like John Kricfalusi's cartoons, one day I discovered his blog and thanks to this I started to know some people that worked or developed their careers thanks to John K. Like Katie Rice, Kali Fontecchio, Marlo Meekins, Nick Cross...and others.

Two years ago I bought Nick's first film ( I think it's the first ), 'The Waif of Persephone'. I liked it ! The last year, he released another short, 'Yellow Cake'. It's nice, has a better production, and you can see the artistic evolution of Nick. And finally ' The Pig Farmer'. If you don't know who is Nick and never have seen one of his short, now you have a good excuse.

The difference between The Pig Farmer and the others is that for the first time he used a funding platform. The web is IndieGoGo. I wrote about this type of platforms here, and I say the same: I like this kind of platforms, people who supports the projects are really interested or believe in the person behind.

Bueno, al fín me he puesto con el 3D, desde que acabé el curso intensivo el pasado Julio no me habia puesto de nuevo. Más o menos el fondo será así, quedan por hacer retoques pero bueno... poc a poc.

Finally, I started with the 3D production, since i finished the course, last summer, i didn't work again with the program. This is the general background, I need to make some little things and change some presets.... patience.

Kaboing TV es el último proyecto del director de animación Joe Murray, un portal web dedicado exclusivamente a la animación. Se trata de un proyecto 100% independiente, ninguna 'gran empresa' está detrás, el dinero para este proyecto se ha conseguido a través de Kickstarter, una plataforma online para creativos donde gente anónima puede aportar su granito de arena en forma de $. La verdad es que este tipo de plataformas me gusta, ya que quien apoya el proyecto es gente interesada o que cree seriamente en el proyecto o la persona que hay detrás.

Kaboing TV is Joe Murray's last project, a web portal entirely dedicated to cartoons. This project is 100% independent, the money for this project has been achieved trough Kickstarter, an online platform for creative where anonymous people can contribute sending some $. I like this kind of platforms, because people who supports the project are really interested people or believe in the project or the person behind.

Animated advertisings - my reflexion

I still hope the day i can join my two passions (the two most important and creative work I've ever had in my life), animation and online advertising.

I've always believed, that is more attractive and interesting an animated banner (with animation I mean real animation, not letters moving in and out and a button that says Click here, if it's not animated put a bit of interactivity) Let's be honest, people do not pay much attention to the banners, always are the same, easy with a basic message. If we want that people feel attracted to the product we need to give something that will make they want to click. But we can not do only an animated banner and then a basic web form, the banner has to link to a fully animated site (pure entertainment).

It can be done in many ways, advergames, sponsored shortfilms, animated comic strips, etc .... logically not everyone who enters the Web will end up consuming the product, but doing something creative and different leads people to forward it to their friends and become a kind of viral ... to finish covering a much larger target, and target broader business opportunities.

But..always is the big problem, money !! To make this type of advertainment is expensive, more expensive than if you had only a web-designer making Gif banners.... but it's logic, more quality = more price.

Yeah... !! finally, I'm finishing one of myself projects. I'm cleaning the last rough drawings, and....that's all !!

It had been a long and nice trip, I started this the last days of December of 2009, but I only worked when I had free time. This short is special, it's my first personal animation. I worked some years ago in the animation industry, but, always for other people. After years without catch any type of pencils, for different reasons...another type of job, inner fights and something more.... and after to have long sessions of psychology with my particular psychologist-animator and friend, Sergi Cámara :) i'm joking..... finally I can say, it's done !!

Another important thing in all film production is the music. Florenci Salesas is the person who is going to put music and sound. Another great person (but crazy), he's an animator, illustrator and musician. I've got the honour to know Florenci and Sergi since 1999, when i started to work as an inbetweener in Studio Camara.

Este último año he estado trabajando en la realización de contenido multimedia para las escuelas. Es un proyecto que se pone en marcha en todas las escuelas de Catalunya este mes de septiembre , en el inicio del curso escolar.

Mí tarea ha consistido en realizar animaciones Flash de las distintas materias y lecciones: Ciencias naturales, Tecnología, Geografía, etc ..... para una editorial de libros escolares.

No se si este proyecto es sólo en Catalunya o en toda España, lo desconozco. Si no lo es....pronto lo será, ya que la tendencia va hacía ahí. Los alumnos tendrán un pequeño laptop, ( demasiado pequeño para mí gusto ) donde entrarán a una plataforma online y desde ahí hacía los distintas materias educativas.

Bien, tal como dije en el último post, ya me encuentro en mí nuevo hogar y he podido disfrutar de unos dias de descanso. Y ahora volvemos a la carga. Estos último días, aprovechando que ha habido bastantes horas de Sol ( algo complicado en Bergen ) he salido para filmar los planos ' reales ' del proyecto final del cual hablé aquí i aquí.

Una parte ya está hecha, ahora quedan las demás: Creación del escenario y las escenas 3D, acabar de pulir el diseño del personaje y la animación. Esto último todavía no lo tengo 100% claro de como lo voy a hacer, no se si animar en 2D o en 3D, igualmente tanto si lo hago de una manera o otra el trabajo no me lo quita nadie, jeje.

Well, as i saw in the last post, i'm at my new home and i 've enjoyed a few days of holidays and relax. Now i return to work. The last few days, thanks to have some hours of Sun ( a bit difficult in Bergen ) i went to film some of the 'real' scenes of my final project, i wrote about it here and here.

One part is done, but there are others: creation of the 3D stage and scenes, finish to polish the character and the most important part, the animation. I'm not 100% sure how i'm going to animate, 2D or 3D, But it doesn't matter, it's a lot of work in any form, hehe.

Lightwave + Fusion + AE

Estos últimos 4 meses he estado totalmente ocupado en 2 cursos intensivos. El primero de 3 meses, con los programas After Effects y Fusion. 2 programas de post-producción y efectos digitales. Han sido tres horas diarias bastante intensas donde he aprendido como manejarme en estos mundos de la post-producción, el AE ya la había utilizado antes, pero en trabajos bastante más sencillos. El Fusion son palabras mayores, tanto por la potencia como dificultad. Se pueden hacer cosas increíbles, pero como todo, requiere práctica i paciencia.

These past four months I have been fully occupied in two intensive courses. The first course had a duration of three months and i learned the programs After Effects and Fusion. 2 programs of post-production and digital effects. Three hours per day where I learned how to handle in the world of post-production, i used AE before, but in much more simple works. Fusion are big words, both the power and difficulty. You can do amazing things, but like everything else, takes practice i patience.

El segundo intensivo ha sido este pasado mes de Julio, con el programa Lightwave. Ha sido mi primera incursión en el 3D... y a que ritmo ! 6 horas diarias donde hemos aprendido las nociones de modelaje, texturización, iluminación, animación.... y tal como he dicho antes..... práctica y paciencia !

The second intensive course was this past July, i learned Lightwave. It was my first experience into 3D ! 6 hours a day where we learned the concepts of modeling, texturing, lighting, animation .... and as I said earlier ..... practice and patience! But i'm really amazed with this powerful program.....Why i didn't learned before !!

Pero un curso no está completo sin su proyecto final, y yo no me libro. Tengo 3 meses para hacer un vídeo donde englobe: imagen real, 3D y edición final . La idea ya la comenté en el post anterior ( Graffiti ). Pero antes de ponerme al 100% quiero disfrutar un par de semanas de unas merecidas vacaciones en mí nueva casa, ciudad y país !!

En la actualidad me encuentro enfrascado en 2 proyectos, los 2 de animación. Uno es una pequeña animación en formato Flash, aunque animada a mano con la Wacom. El otro proyecto es algo más ' grande ', se trata del proyecto final de un master de post-producción y efectos digitales que he acabado de cursar. Es animación 2D integrada en imagen real.... bastante faena por delante y unido a un traslado...casi nada, pero se que todo irá a buen puerto.

I am currently working in two animated projects. One is a small animation built in Flash, it's hand-draw animation made with a Wacom. The other project is 'bigger', it's the finalproject of a post-production and digital effects master that I finished. It is 2D animation and real video .

' Un nuevo amigo ' - Una idea que se me ocurrió al ver un dibujo de un ilustrador y amigo noruego, Vegard Toresen. Gracias a esto me he animado a dejar el papel y el lapiz a un lado y trabajar directamente con la paleta. La verdad es que me está gustando es más fluido a la hora de dibujar, no me siento condicionado por las medidas de un A4.

'A New Friend' - An idea that occurred to me when i saw a picture of a Norwegian illustrator and friend, Vegard Toresen. I dared to leave the paper and pencil aside and work directly with the Wacom. The truth is that i like it ! i'm more fluid working with this, i'm not conditioned by the size of a paper.

En un par de meses muchas cosas van a cambiar, hace 3 años que lo decidí y finalmente se hará realidad ( esperemos que no se joda en el último momento ). Me marcho !! Emigro a otro país. Es por eso que he desatendido este blog durante tiempo, entre otros asuntos, tenia la cabeza en otras cosas.

Me marcho a Escandinavia, en concreto a Noruega. No se por cuanto tiempo, ya se verá, todo depende como vaya por ahí arriba.

El año pasado estrené un nuevo blog sobre Noruega, en el escribo sobre cosas que me gustan de ese país: cultura, gente, lugares, etc.... es por eso que lo quiero compartir con vosotros.

Mientras estaba intentando aprender un poco de noruego leyendo el diario online Aftenposten, me he fijado en un banner protagonizado por 2 muñecos de Lego, me ha picado la curiosidad y he clickado.( cosa rara, ya que nunca me despiertan demasiado interés)

He entrado en una web Flash donde se reproduce una animación protagonizada por muñecos Lego. Se trata de una web turística para visitar Dinamarca y de paso promocionar el Legoland Resort de Billund.

La verdad es que es un placer ver este tipo de webs, la interactividad con el usuario la considero esencial. Sí queremos atraer a nuestro ' target ' ya que no le ofrecemos nada que se pueda tocar y oler al menos darle una sensación parecida, que manipule, investigue, o que sea el protagonista, etc.... La lástima es que para muchos esta interactividad sólo se limita a un banner Gif de 20 kas y una landing page con un formulario de registro.

The Pixar Story - Art futura 2008

Ayer fuí a la inauguración de Art Futura 2008 , el festival de cultura y arte digital, donde tuve la oportunidad de ver en exclusiva el documental ' The Pixar Story', un fantástico film-documental ( en V.O. subtitulada )de hora y media dirigido por Leslie Iwerks, nieta del legendario animador Ub Iwerks, que explica con footage exclusivo e imágenes inéditas la evolución de los estudios Pixar.

El documental es excelente !! En el se explica como se formaron los estudios Pixar, la evolución de sus creadores ( John Lasseter, Steve Jobs y Ed Catmull ) hasta convertirse en lo que son hoy en dia, con imágenes de sus comienzos, entrevistas a otros animadores ( Glean Keane , Andreas Deja... Frank & Ollie..etc )

Un documental que recomiendo al 100% !! Tanto para los profesionales del mundo de la animación como a cualquier buen aficionado del cine de animación.

Se puede encontrar por la red, en versión original.

Yesterday I went to the inauguration of Art Futura 2008, the festival of digital culture and art, where I had the opportunity to see the documentary "The Pixar Story," a fantasy film-documentary (subtitled in VO) about half and hour directed by Leslie Iwerks, granddaughter of legendary animator Ub Iwerks, which explains with exclusive footage and unpublished pictures the evolution of Pixar.

The documentary is excellent! It explained how Pixar Was created, the evolution of their creators (John Lasseter, Steve Jobs and Ed Catmull) to become what they are today, with pictures of their beginnings, interviews with other animators (Gleaner Keane, Andreas Deja Frank & Ollie ... .. etc)

A documentary that I recommend 100%! For professionals animators and to all fans of the animated films.

Gracias a Amazon hoy han llegado 4 libros sobre cine y animación bastante interesantes. Me los he mirado por encima y hay uno que flojea un poco, pero por lo general no estan nada mal.

Thanks to Amazon today arrived four books about cinema techniques and animation . In general the are good books except one, it's a bit weak of content.

Libro de animación de Eric Goldberg ( ex- animador Disney ). Está bastante completo, aunque no es para principiantes, es para gente que ya conozca las reglas básicas de la animación.

El libro incluye la mayoria de apuntes de animación ( a bolígrafo ) que hizo Eric Goldberg hace unos años. Sí hay algun animador que me lee a lo mejor sabrá de que le hablo. Las tengo por casa, sí las encuentro pondré alguna.

Eric Goldberg fué el 'Lead animator' de Genio en la pelicula de Aladdin, ( entre otros personajes )

Recomendable !!!

Eric Goldberg's animation book (ex-Disney animator). It's fairly comprehensive, though not for beginners, is for people who already know the basic rules of animation. The book includes the majority of animation notes (hand-made) that Eric Goldberg did few years ago. If there is an animator who read me i supose he will know what I'm speaking . I' ve got it !! If i find someday i'll put here.

Eric Goldberg was the lead animator of Genie, in Aladdin's film.

Recommended !!!

En estos meses, desde que escribí por última vez, he conocido a varias personas con buenas ideas y buen talento creativo, en este post y en los 2 siguientes voy a hablar de ellos.

El primero es... Muñeco ( su identidad no puede ser revelada ), un joven gaditano con un inquietante mundo interior :) Sus traumas son plasmados en forma de dibujos y en diversidad de estilos...con predominio de los colores rojo, negro y blanco. Bueno !!

George Liquor ( American ), el personaje creado por John Kricfalusi, vuelve con todos nosotros.

George Liquor apareció por primera vez en 'The Ren & Stimpy Show', más tarde, a finales de los 90 tuvo una serie própia para internet, se hicieron 8 capitulos.

El año pasado ya escribí acerca del segundo episodio, producido por Studio Camara, de Clint West, el ‘Escudella Western’ del Legendario Forajido. Para quien no lo sepa se trata de un cortometraje de animación en formato Flash.

La producción es lenta, pero por un motivo: Tenemos otros trabajos más importantes ( con los que pagamos las facturas ) y sólo podemos dedicarle tiempo cuando tenemos algún pequeño parón o, como es mí caso, dedicando alguna que otra hora nocturna.
Esperamos acabarlo antes de 10 años…. Jejeje.

El siguiente linetest es un trozo de un plano del final del capítulo, no está completo, todavía falta más animación solamente lo he testeado para ver si el movimiento es correcto y que cosas se pueden mejorar.

Normalmente para animar utilizo el método del ‘straight ahead’ ( animación continuada ) y sólo en casos contados animo ‘pose a pose’... prefiero la primera por un motivo: te da más libertad y fluidez.

Last year I wrote about the second episode of Clint West, produced by Studio Camara, the `Escudella Western' of the Legendary Outlaw. For who does not know it's an animation short in Flash format.

The production goes very slow, but there is a reason: We have other more important works (whit which pay the bills) and only we can dedicate time to it when we have less work or, in my case, dedicating some nocturnal hours. We hope to finish it in the next ten years…. Jejeje.

The next linetest is a part of a scene of the end of the chapter, is not complete, there are more animation, only I've tested it to see if the movement is correct and what things can be improved.

Normally I use to animate the method of `straight ahead' (continued animation) and only in counted cases I animate `pose to pose'… I prefer first by a reason: it gives to more freedom and fluidity.

Vacaciones en Noruega - Holidays in Norway

Del 10 al 17 de Septiembre he estado de vacaciones en Noruega. Después de 2 años sin descanso y al pie del canon me he podido permitir el lujo de dedicarme unos días a descansar y a disfrutar de un país increíble.

Viajar a Noruega era algo que tenía en mente desde hace ya unos 10 años y aunque no he podido disfrutarlo por más tiempo el primer contacto ha sido espectacular, es un viaje que no me cansaría de repetir y desde aquí os lo recomiendo a todos, al menos una vez en la vida. Va bien para el alma.

Noruega es naturaleza al 100%, te desborda.. aparte es un país muy grande... o debería decir inmenso... y solitario, ya que solamente viven unos 5.000.000 millones de habitantes y aunque hay turismo no es la masificación que se puede encontrar en otras ciudades. Prefiero estar sólo en algún sitio que encontrarme centenares de turistas haciendo cola en todos los sitios.

He estado en una casa a unos 20 km de Bergen, la 2ª ciudad del país, en un núcleo llamado Hordvik. Tranquilidad total.

No digo más, mejor que veais las fotos.

From the 10th until 17th of September I've been in Norway for holidays. After 2 years without rest finally i've got the luxury to dedicate days to me and to enjoy this incredible country.

Travel to Norway was something that i had in mind already about 10 years ago and although I have not been able to enjoy it more time the first contact has been spectacular, it is a trip that would not tire me to repeat and from here I recommend it here to all, at least once in the life. It goes well for the soul.

Norway is 100% nature , it overflows ..... , it is a very big country… or would have to say immense… and solitaire, it has got only 5.000.000 million inhabitants . there are tourism but is not the masificación that can be found in other cities.

I stayed in a house about 20 km from Bergen, the 2nd city of Norway, in Hordvik. Total tranquillity.

Aquí podeis ver uno de los últimos trabajos que he hecho, un bodegón de presentación de una coleccionable de Scalextric ( ya en los kioskos ) . Por primera vez no he utilizado el Flash, lo he creado totalmente con After Effects. Estoy satisfecho del resultado final.

This is one of the latest works that i done, it's an introductory banner for a car collection from Scalextric. For the first time i didn't use Macromedia Flash, i made totally in After Effects. I'm satisfied with the final result.

Esta es una pequeña animación que he hecho para unos juegos educativos, esta versión es de prueba, para que el cliente vea la animación. En verdad se trata de una barra de puntuación donde el gusano irá subiendo comforme se contesten correctamente a unas preguntas.

Es animación tradicional y luego vectorizada. La escala será de unos 200 px.

Estoy flipando !! Después de dedicarle horas a subir los videos propios de Studio Camara ( más de 40 cortometrajes y demás animaciones ) Qual ha sido mí sorpresa hoy al ver que han eliminado permamentemente la cuenta del estudio, y encima sin avisarnos ni nada. Todo el trabajo que hemos hecho para convertir videos de un formato a otro, subirlos, editar la información de cada uno.... no ha servido para nada.

Pues nada, los tendremos de volver a subir.....pero no a Youtube, a estos que les den!!

Reconozco que tengo el blog desatendido, pero tengo excusa ( o no...) tengo un montón de trabajo para hacer y no tengo tiempo.

Tengo en mente hacer cambios de diseño, juntamente con alguna novedad más, pero no se para cuando. Espero tenerlo para Septiembre aunque no es seguro.

Bueno, han pasado casi 3 meses desde que escribí por última vez, reconozco que he tenido el blog un poco olvidado, pero vamos a ponerle remedio ahora mismo.

John Kricfalusi vuelve ¡!... en verdad nunca se ha ido pero vuelve a ser protagonista en este humilde blog , y ya van....

Pues eso, el animador canadiense, creador de la mítica serie ‘ Ren & Stimpy’ , ha ideado una campaña de promoción y publicidad de una compañía de mensajería instantánea y televisión llamada Raketu. ( clickar para ver las animaciones )

Hay 4 animaciones diferentes protagonizadas por los personajes marca de la casa ( Spumco ): George Liquor, Sody Pop…. . La animación es limitada pero sublime ¡! Poco movimiento pero con buena puesta en escena y dinamismo.

John ha ido filtrando al público algunas de las animaciones a través de su blog durante semanas. Sí de verdad os gusta la animación hacerle una visita, hay bastantes bocetos y linetest.

Pues sí, estoy de trabajo hasta arriba. Es por eso que ya escribiré algo cuando sea posible. Tengo 4 trabajos diferentes entre manos y uno no da más de sí.

A veces me gustaría ser algun tipo de mutante con 4 brazos.... para poder trabajar más y más rápido....

Para aquellos que no lo conozcan Jim Smith es un animador americano de la factoria Spumco ( Ren & Stimpy, Jimmy the Idiot boy, Weekend Pussy Hunt....). en verdad fué, juntamente con John kricfalusi, el co-fundador de la compañía, en 1989. Tambien fué el co-creador de la gran serie animada de los 90 'Ren & Stimpy'.

Actualmente Jim está ocupado con su proyecto personal 'Chestaclese', una especie de Conan El Bárbaro pero más gamberro.

Esperamos ver pronto su obra terminada. Buena suerte.

For those that do not know, Jim Smith is an American animator from Spumco (Ren & Stimpy, Jimmy the Idiot boy, Weekend Pussy Hunt….). It was, with John kricfalusi, the Co-founder of the company in 1989. Also fwas the Co-creator of the best animated series of the 90 “Ren & Stimpy”.

At the moment Jim is occupied with his personal project “Chestaclese”, a type of Conan the Barbarian but more wild and silly.

We hope to see its finished work as soon as posible. Good luck.

Este es un bodegón de la colección Barón Rojo. Se trata de una colección por fascículos para que construyas y pilotes el Fokker Dr. 1 de Manfred Von Richthofen. Esta colección saldrá a finales de agosto en España.

El tamaño original del flash es de 439 x 225. Lo que pasa es que al subirlo al Imageshack lo cambia de tamaño.

This is a flash of the Red Baron's collection. Is a collection by fascicles to construct and pilot the Fokker Dr. 1 of Manfred Von Richthofen. This collection will be in libraries at the end of August, only in Spain.

Lo que vereis a continuación es un pequeño y sencillo interactivo, sobre las locomotoras en miniatura de Talgo. Se trata de una colección de fascículos ( de próxima aparición en España) para que montes 3 trenes Talgo.

Lo he subido al imageshack, pero me lo ha ampliado de tamaño y algunos bitmaps se ven alterados.

What will going to see next is small and simple an interactive flash, it's about the locomotives in miniature of Talgo. Is a weekly collection of fascicles (of soon appearance in Spain) for made 3 Talgo trains.
I uploaded at imageshack, but they resized the swf. Some bitmaps are altered.

Este banner lo he hecho para Ediciones Altaya, pero para su división francesa. Se trata de la colección Viper Extreme, una colección por fascículos para que te construyas tu Viper radiocontrol.
Lo que tiene de destacar en el banner es que el coche, aparte de correr los 100 km/h tiene luces delanteras y traseras. Y la verdad, creo que lo he conseguido. :-)

I made this banner for Ediciones Altaya, for his french division. It's about the Viper Extreme collection, a piece by piece collection for made your Viper radiocontrol.
The idea that must to emphasize in the banner is that the car, aside from running the 100 km/h has front and back lights. I think that I have obtained it. :-)

Casa de Muñecas - Doll's house

Esta semana he estado trabajando con el Flash en una visita virtual a una casa de muñecas. Es una colección para construir pieza a pieza una casa rústica mediterránea. La intención es de que el cliente vea como puede quedar la casa cuando esté totalmente construida, con fotos de las distintas habitaciones.
Son 8 Swf diferentes; 1 es la peli principal ( logo y casa) y las 7 restantes son las imágenes de introducción y las 6 diferentes habitaciones.
A ver que os parece.

This week I have been working with Flash in a virtual visit to a dolls house. It's a collection to make step by step a Mediterranean rustic house. The intention of this is that the client will see the house finished, with photos of the different rooms. There are 8 different Swf; 1 is the main or menu (logo and house) and the 7 rest are the images of introduction and the 6 different rooms. Enjoy !

Por fin puedo postear una animación mía. Me ha costado arrancar los motores de nuevo.

Han pasado más de 2 años desde que hice mí última animación, concretamente para la película 'Piñatas'. Hacía meses que quería coger los lápices y animar algo, pero supongo que por algún tipo de miedo 'escénico'... ya sabéis;¿ me acordaré de animar ? ¿ me saldrá bien ?...... me era imposible, hasta.... el pasado domingo que por fin me decidí y probé suerte, y la verdad.... es que me acuerdo !! :-)

Es una animación para mí Web personal, que en estos momentos está en vías de desarrollo. Es una chica sentada detrás de una mesa, que se gira para escribir al ordenador. Mí intención es animarla a papel y lápiz para luego vectorizarla y pasarla a Flash. La animación está muy abocetada y hay algunas cosas que se retocaran, aparte el timing me lo tengo de mirar mejor.

Hay tres versiones; 12 fotogramas, 18 fr. y 24 fr.

Finally I can post my own animation.
More of 2 years have passed since I did my last animation, concretely for the film “Piñatas”. Months ago i think to take the pencils and animate something, but I suppose that by some type of “scenic” fear… you know; I will remember animate? I remember to draw well? ...... it was impossible to me, until…. the past Sunday that finally I was decided and Icatch my pencils, and the truth is…. it's that I remember! : -)

It's an animation for my personal Web, that at the moment is in development. She is a girl sitting behind a table, that rotate to write at the computer. My intention is to animate it on paper later vectorize the drawings and edited with Flash. The animation is very sketched, there are some things that will change. Timing is another thing to study.

There are 3 versions: 12 frames, 18 fr. and 24 fr.

My elemental skills of english are increasing a little every day. jejeje
